About Us
About the Company
Burns Language Services was founded in 2015 by Johana Burns in response to the large and growing need for professional and accurate interpreting for the legal field. Before that, Johana had spent years working in a law office, which created a solid understanding of legal concepts, and also awakened a passion for the business that she knew she wanted to pursue.
At Burns Language Services we are passionate about the business of interpretation and translation, and the legal industry which we primarily serve. That passion drives the team to always give our best and to ensure that we are serving our clients completely and accurately. Everyone at Burns Language Services is a top performing interpreter/translator with excellent skills in both American English and the language they facilitate for our clients. Our clients are always our top priority.
We pride ourselves on helping our community as well. As a company we work closely with our clients on select pro Bono legal cases involving less fortunate individuals who do not primarily speak English.
About Our Founder
Johana was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia where she grew up speaking Spanish but was always intrigued and interested in the English language. After studying International Business, Johana moved to the US and immediately immersed herself completely in the American culture. She spoke only English for years, and peppered her US-born husband with meticulous questions about context, phrasing and proper pronunciation to make sure she learned to speak English properly and completely. Johana is very passionate about her work and her business. She loves the Industry, her clients and the people she gets to meet.
In addition to the business, Johana other passions include family, friends and every dog she comes across. She has fostered several and adopted three dogs of her own, and volunteers her interpretation services for various dog-related service organizations in her spare time.
What We Offer
Services
We provide interpretation and translation services, primarily to the Legal Industry. We are located in Atlanta, Georgia in the Eastern Mountain time zone, which allows us to serve the entire country via teleconferencing technology and travel in specific circumstances.
Our legal clients contact us when they have a need to communicate with their Spanish, Korean, French, Portuguese, Mandarin, Krio, Farsi, Russian, Haitian Creole, Burmese, Vietnamese, Amharic, Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati (and other) speaking clientele by conducting depositions, mediation, court hearings, trials, in-office meetings, conference calls, or simply managing logistics and setting up appointments across the language barrier.
We also serve other industries and clients, with availability for business meetings, trade shows, consultations, negotiations and travel-related services, among others.
Depositions and Mediations
Official communications between attorney and client drive the outcomes of the case or negotiation, and require strict accuracy in translation of words and meanings. The professionals at Burns Language Services provide these sound fundamentals and go the extra mile to facilitate more nuanced understanding between parties.
In-Court Appearances
Court hearings come with a heightened need for clarity and accuracy, and require a certified expert to interpret simultaneously. Burns Language Services can provide that certified expertise, and help with the court process from beginning to end.
Logistics and Appointments
We will handle all of the logistics and planning with your non-English-speaking clients to provide the highest level of comfort and to reduce the possibility of misunderstandings due to the language barrier.
In-office meetings
Some of the most important communications between attorney and client take place in the office. We will facilitate these communications to improve clarity and effectiveness of the attorney-client relationship.
